AACN now offers on-demand state-specific data reports based on the 2023-2024 annual survey. These reports cover enrollment and graduation data for various nursing programs (baccalaureate, baccalaureate-RN, master’s, DNP, PhD) and faculty salary data at state levels. They facilitate state-by-state comparisons and help assess school performance relative to state programs.
April 30, 2024 AACN is committed to achieving the preferred future for nursing education outlined in the 2021 Essentials and to communicating the fundamental "WHY" behind the importance of fully embracing this call for transformation. This framework for nursing education was developed in response to the need for nurses who are well-equipped to navigate today's complex and rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Developed with input from practice and academic leaders over a consensus-building, two-year period, the Essentials received overwhelming support through a vote from AACN's national network of more than 875 member schools of nursing.
April 25, 2024 AACN has launched the Developing Nursing Well-Being and Leadership Tool Kit for faculty working to prepare new nurses with key skills needed to succeed in the healthcare system, specifically in the areas of well-being, self-care, resilience, and leadership. Funding for this resource was provided by the Johnson & Johnson Foundation with the goal of accelerating the transition to competency-based education in nursing and meeting the expectations outlined by AACN in The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education.

AACN is pleased to announce that Jean Giddens, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, dean and professor of nursing at the Virginia Commonwealth University, has been appointed Chair of the AACN Board of Directors. Dr. Giddens officially began her two-year term as Board Chair at noon today following AACN’s Spring 2024 Business Meeting in Washington, DC.
February 12, 2024 AACN announces the results of its 2024 election to fill seats on the AACN Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. With votes cast by half of all member deans from the nation’s nursing schools with baccalaureate and higher degree programs, those selected to serve as AACN’s top leaders include Board members Julie Sanford (Chair-elect) from The University of Alabama; Victoria Niederhauser (Secretary) from the University of Tennessee Knoxville; Stephen Cavanagh from the University of California-Davis; Rhoberta Haley from Pacific Lutheran University; Kimberly Hunter from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; and Rita Trofino from Saint Francis University. New members of AACN’s Nominating Committee include Julie Anne Hoff from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Tony Umadhay from Barry University.
