Policy on Disclosure of Accreditation Status and Use of the Accreditation Seal by Accredited Programs:
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) does not require accredited programs to publicly disclose their accreditation status; however, a program or institution that chooses to make a public disclosure must do so accurately and in accordance with CCNE policy. (Please note that when the CCNE Board of Commissioners issues a show cause directive, the program is obligated to inform its residents/fellows and prospective residents/fellows of that action within 7 business days of notification by CCNE. See the section titled Show Cause in the Procedures for Accreditation Nurse Practitioner Fellowship/Residency Programs for more information.)
If an institution or a nurse practitioner fellowship/residency program chooses to make such a disclosure, it must identify the accredited nurse practitioner fellowship/residency program and its affiliation with CCNE. CCNE has approved the use of either of the following statements for disclosure of the accreditation status to the public:
“The (NP fellowship/residency program) at (institution) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.ccneaccreditation.org).”
“The (NP fellowship/residency program) at (institution) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, (202) 887-6791.”
Additionally, CCNE-accredited programs are invited to utilize the CCNE accreditation seal with the public disclosure statement. While a program is not required to use the accreditation seal as part of its public disclosure, if the program chooses to use the accreditation seal, the approved language identified above must accompany the seal. Please refer to the specific requirements below related to use of the CCNE accreditation seal.
Please be advised that a new applicant program or other program that does not hold CCNE accreditation status is not permitted to use the seal or to imply in any way that the program is CCNE-accredited.
CCNE is pleased to provide accredited programs with the CCNE accreditation seal. CCNE encourages its accredited programs to utilize the seal in their print and electronic media. By displaying the seal and the accompanying disclosure statement, programs are signifying to their constituents that the program has been recognized as maintaining good educational practices in the field of nursing. In order to protect the CCNE brand, programs must follow the usage guidelines as described in the CCNE Accreditation Seal Standards Guide when using the accreditation seal. Programs that are not accredited by CCNE are not permitted to use the CCNE accreditation seal. Programs that are not authorized to use the CCNE accreditation seal and those appropriately authorized programs that use the CCNE accreditation seal in a manner not consistent with the CCNE Accreditation Seal Standards Guide will be required to correct their print and electronic media immediately at their own expense. Use of the CCNE accreditation seal implies understanding and acceptance of the provisions outlined in the CCNE Accreditation Seal Standards Guide.
