Through a series of thoughtfully designed initiatives and events, the university strives to promote wellness and resilience across campus. Here's a glimpse into some of the recent activities:
The university recently launched a wellness competition spanning two weeks. Participants were encouraged to maintain wellness journals, recording their daily activities aimed at enhancing personal well-being. Participants were entered into a drawing for wellness-based prizes, such as step tracks, activity trackers, and sound machines.
The School of Nursing treated its faculty to a catered lunch focusing on nutrition. During the event, faculty members were provided with a one-page document outlining quick resource for wellness focused strategies in class or clinical . The event also featured wellness-themed door prizes.
Students had the privilege of hearing from the Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center. The informative session shed light on the importance of wellness and introduced students to various campus and community resources available to support their well-being.
A dedicated Wellness Room has been established on campus, courtesy of the administration. This tranquil space, equipped with amenities such as a massage chair, red light therapy, plants, artwork, a sound machine, and a CD player, serves as a sanctuary for all faculty and staff seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. The development of the wellness room led to the opening of the new Bronco Nursing Success Center.
In collaboration with the North Carolina Nurses Association, the School of Nursing hosted an 8-hour training session on Stress First Aid. Participants gained invaluable skills to effectively address stress and its impact on mental health.
The School of Nursing organized two lunch and learn sessions to discuss the topics of wellness and resilience. One session focused on the AACN 2021 Essentials domain 10 and strategies for implementing learning strategies across the curriculum.
“Another success was just the fact that faculty and students were enthusiastic about learning more and how to be resilient and how to be well and enhance self-care. That was very exciting to see.” – Jennifer Johnson, Interim Associate Dean
