AACN & AONL: Fostering Collaboration, Innovation, and Strategic Action

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) are committed to advancing academic-practice collaboration, strengthening nursing leadership, educating the nursing workforce, and improving the quality of health care for all.

For nearly a decade, AACN and AONL have worked closely together to identify shared values and interests and develop strategies to meet the challenges facing the nursing profession. This collaboration has led to the creation of the AACN/AONL Academic-Practice Advisory Committee, which is composed of dyads of leaders from schools of nursing and healthcare organizations. The committee is tasked with identifying opportunities for strategic engagement to advance a shared vision for strengthening the connection between education and practice.

The AACN/AONL Academic-Practice Advisory Committee is charged with the following:

  • Evaluate emerging challenges impacting the health professions workforce.
  • Create a comprehensive guidance document outlining the current state of academic-practice partnerships that provide exemplary examples of innovation, financial strategies, and leadership to inform the profession.
  • Develop strategic priorities aimed at strengthening academic-practice partnerships.
