About Congresswoman Lauren Underwood Newly elected Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, a RN from Illinois' 14th Congressional District, is the youngest African American woman to serve in the United States House of Representatives, the first woman of color and millennial to represent her community, and a proud supporter of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act. Prior to her election, as a registered nurse and Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she worked to prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters and bioterror threats.
