Dr. David Garr to Receive Bednash Lectureship Award at AACN Deans Annual Meeting Wednesday, March 7, 2018 At the AACN Deans Annual Meeting—to be held in Washington, DC, March 24-27, 2018—the Geraldine “Polly” Bednash Lectureship Award will be presented to Dr. David Garr, Associate Dean for Community Medicine, Professor of Family Medicine, and Executive Director, South Carolina AHEC, Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Garr is being honored for his work to advance interprofessional education and practice. He will address the membership upon receipt of the award. Prevention, population health, and interprofessional education and practice have been Dr. Garr’s areas of educational and research focus. He has served as the chair of the interprofessional Healthy People Curriculum Task Force since 2002, which developed the Clinical Prevention and Population Health Curriculum Framework for health professions education. He recently completed a three-year term as a member of the HRSA Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-based Linkages. During his tenure, the Committee published reports on health behavior change, professional development and lifelong learning, interprofessional education and practice, and population health. The Bednash lectureship award honors Dr. Polly Bednash for her distinguished record of service to AACN. Award recipients are chosen by the AACN Board of Directors on the basis of their scholarship and the notability of their contributions to nursing, health care, higher education, and/or interprofessional education.
