AACN Extends Deadline for Feedback on Position Statement on the Research-Focused Doctorate

AACN’s Board of Directors created the Task Force on the Research-Focused Doctoral Program Pathways to Excellence to develop a new vision for PhD programs and graduates. The task force was charged with revising AACN’s 2010 position statement on the Research-Focused Doctoral Program in Nursing. To accomplish this revision, the task force consulted with experts and considered trends in higher education, nursing education, nursing research, other health disciplinary research, and career trajectories for research scientists, faculty, and other leadership roles.

Today, the Task Force is releasing a draft of the new position statement on the research-focused doctorate for your review and feedback.

As part of the consensus-building process, AACN is seeking comments from AACN members and stakeholders from October 15-November 12, 2021. Members also are asked to provide comment and ask questions at the task force update planned for October 31 from 9:30-10:30 am (ET) at the Academic Nursing Leadership Conference. Feedback received from members and stakeholders will be critically considered by the task force for inclusion in the final statement.

How to Give Feedback

1. Review the DRAFT Research-Focused Doctoral Program in Nursing: Pathways to Excellence and consider the following key questions:

  • What was captured well in the statement?
  • What areas appear to be missing?
  • What else does the task force need to consider?

2. Submit feedback via email, directly to Dr. Rick García, AACN Director of Nursing Education, pathways@aacnnursing.org.

  • Delineate your feedback using the page number and document line.
