GNSA Launches First Award for PhD-DNP Collaboration Excellence

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 17, 2019 - The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is pleased to announce the launch of the new awards program sponsored by the Graduate Nursing Student Academy (GNSA) to spotlight exemplary partnerships between students in research-focused and practice-focused doctoral programs. The GNSA Award for PhD-DNP Collaboration Excellence recognizes the outstanding work underway to advance the nursing profession through an innovative and synergistic approach in translating research into practice and generating new knowledge.

AACN is a leading advocate for expanding the nation's supply of doctorally prepared nurses needed to serve as researchers, faculty, advanced practice registered nurses, and leaders of the profession. Collaboration among students who are prepared in PhD and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs is critical to advancing innovations in nursing research and practice. The literature continually points to positive outcomes that result when students in these two programs work together. The GNSA Award for PhD-DNP Collaboration Excellence will help elevate examples of collaboration that are innovative, can be replicated, and promote positive educational outcomes.

The award nominations must include one PhD and one DNP student; teams of up to 6 students may also apply. The application must demonstrate the collaborative work and how it has potential to advance science or influence outcomes related to health care, nursing practice, and/or health policy.
