AACN and Uniform Advantage Announce New Scholarship for Graduate Nursing Student Academy Members Thursday, October 17, 2019 Uniform Advantage Commits $25,000 in Scholarship Funding through 2024 WASHINGTON, D.C., October 17, 2019 - The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and Uniform Advantage are pleased to announce the launch of a new scholarship program for nursing students enrolled in master's and doctoral programs. Developed to support future leaders of the nursing profession, this program is open to members of the Graduate Nursing Student Academy (GNSA) who are committed to making a positive impact on the nation's health and health care. AACN applauds Uniform Advantage, a leading retailer of scrubs and medical uniforms, for sponsoring this scholarship and for their support of graduate-level nursing education. "Uniform Advantage believes strongly in giving back to their communities, and this graduate scholarship will allow students to be the next change agents and healthcare collaborators to impact a dynamic and complex healthcare industry," said Susan Masimore, President and CEO of UA Brands. With the first awards presented in February 2020, two $2,500 scholarships will be available to GNSA members through the newly created Uniform Advantage-GNSA Scholarship Fund (one disbursed in the fall and one in the spring). A total of $5,000 in scholarship funding will be available each year through 2024. Interested applicants must complete an application form found on the AACN web site, which includes submitting a 500-word essay and one academic or professional reference. Winners will be selected based on academic standing and on an essay that must address how they plan to impact the future of health care. Application deadlines are set for January 31 and September 30. AACN launched the Graduate Nursing Student Academy in 2012 to provide high value programs, services, and resources to nursing students enrolled in master's and doctoral programs. With more than 8,000 students currently enrolled, the GNSA serves the professional development needs of graduate nursing students as they prepare for future careers as faculty members, researchers, advanced practice registered nurses, policy experts, healthcare administrators, and other roles in nursing leadership. GNSA members have access to many benefits, including a free Webinar series on topics of particular interest to graduate students, funding opportunity announcements, multiple networking platforms, and a graduate nursing career board. Membership in the GNSA is free to all graduate nursing students enrolled in AACN member schools. To find out more about joining the GNSA, see the website here. AACN actively seeks opportunities to partner with corporate sponsors and other stakeholders to offer scholarship programs for nursing students in baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral programs. Programs currently available include the Castlebranch-AACN Scholarship, the Geraldine "Polly" Bednash Scholarship, and the AfterCollege-AACN Scholarship. Learn more about these scholarships here.
